Our achievements so far

Our organisation works with members of the Rosewell community and beyond.  We support vulnerable young people and adults who are in need of 1-1 or small group support to develop their confidence and employability skills through volunteering.
• We have delivered training to over 50 volunteers which has helped enhance their employability opportunities, and has given them the opportunity to meet with like-minded people and increase their confidence.
• Four young people have successfully entered into paid apprenticeships providing a continual flow of income and the opportunity to learn new skills in supportive surroundings.
• We have delivered successful woodland training courses to local children and young people since 2010.  Over 70 people have benefitted from these free courses which promote healthy living and help develop an appreciation for the outdoors, learn new practical skills, and offer opportunities to create new friendships.
• Our computer and lunch clubs are supported by 4 volunteers who assist the senior citizen group members with learning new I.T skills and promote activities that will increase social interaction and reduce mental health/loneliness issues.
Our largest projects currently involving volunteers include:
• School volunteer Programme – Currently 7 volunteers are actively gaining experience in an educational setting.  All of our volunteers are encouraged to document their experiences and development through completing a personal portfolio.  Our volunteers support the work of the classroom teacher, are involved with wider school activities and work with small groups of children to support their personal learning outcomes.
• Rosewell History Group –This group gives people who are otherwise isolated the opportunity to meet and share memories and tales with like-minded individuals.  The memories are recorded and will eventually be on display in our new community hub for the community to appreciate. It is currently supported by our Volunteer Coordinator and 2 volunteers.
• Woodland Courses – We target each course to the youngsters in the local community and actively engage with the most isolated families.  To date we have supported 60 children and disadvantaged young people on these free courses.  12 volunteers supported our summer course in 2013 with 2 of the volunteers gaining a promotion into a paid summer apprenticeship opportunity.
• Rosewell Community Youth Leadership Programme – Working in partnership with Midlothian Council, we are currently engaging with 6 young people from Rosewell to develop a group which focuses on youth and adult community working to deliver projects and events which benefit the local community.
