Getting here

  • Parking: 2 accessible parking bays by the main entrance. Step‑free route from parking to entrance.
  • Public transport: Lothian Buses 46 and X31 stop on Carnethie Street – bus stops are located just a minute’s walk from The Steading. Pavements on this stretch are step-free and generally level.
  • Drop‑off: Step-free kerbside drop‑off at within The Steading car park.
  • Entrances: Main entrance door with automatic doors.

Inside the venue

  • Mobility: The building is fully wheelchair accessible. Step‑free access throughout public areas.
  • Seating: Portable chairs available on request.
  • Lighting and sound: General lighting in public areas is even and bright. We do not use strobe lighting. Sensory Room lighting is low-level, adjustable sensory lighting (e.g. colour-changing effects). No strobe or high-frequency flashing. We can dim or switch off effects on request.
  • Signage: Directional signage to key spaces and toilets.

Facilities

  • Accessible toilet: Located by café area. Grab rails and emergency pull cord provided.
  • Baby change: Available by café area.
  • Hearing support: Not currently available.
  • Assistance dogs: Welcome. Water bowls available on request.

Activity access

  • Soft Play: For ages 0-5 years. Max 6 children per session. Adult must remain and supervise. If session is full, we may limit to one adult per child.
  • Sensory Room: Max 4 users if any user is over 5 years, or 6 users if all users are 0-5 years. If at capacity, we may limit to one carer per user.
  • Child drop-off sessions: Only for after-school and holiday sessions. Otherwise a parent/guardian must remain.
  • Adjustments: Tell us your access needs when booking or contact us in advance. We will make reasonable adjustments where possible.

Booking

  • Online bookings available for soft play, sensory room and birthday party sessions. If online booking is not accessible for you, contact us and we can assist.

Emergencies and evacuation

  • Refuge point at bus stop on Carnethie Street.
  • If you may need help exiting, inform staff on arrival so we can plan assistance.
