A Spotlight on Volunteering

Our Volunteers

RDT currently has 45 active volunteers over a variety of different roles including Board members, Welcome Desk, Gardening, Lunch Club, Social groups, Mother & Toddlers Group, After School Clubs and Sewing Bee.

Our volunteers vary in age from 14 through to 80+ years and are not only from Rosewell but the surrounding towns and villages of Midlothian.

Supporting Everyone to Get Involved

Within our volunteers, we have a number who would be classed as having a learning disability and we work closely with local organisations ensuring we offer opportunities and appropriate support not only to benefit RDT but to benefit the individual – helping them learn new skills, make friendships, and feel part of the community.

Saying Thank You

We are immensely grateful for the contributions that our volunteers make and twice yearly we host a volunteer thank you event. These events are a fantastic opportunity for all the volunteers to get together, enjoy some food and drink and socialise.

Volunteers Week & the Midlothian Volunteer Awards

We also participate in Volunteers Week, a national campaign to celebrate the contributions that volunteers make across the UK. Launched in 1984, this initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts. Volunteers Week fosters connections between national organisations and grassroots groups, celebrating the spirit of volunteering that enriches communities each year.

One of the highlights of Volunteers Week is the Midlothian Volunteer Awards, organised by Midlothian Community Action (MCA) – the leading agency for volunteering development in Midlothian. Each year we nominate our volunteers across a variety of categories, and we are delighted to have won numerous awards over the years. It’s a wonderful occasion that brings the wider community together to recognise people who give their time so generously, and just one of the ways we make sure our volunteers know how valued they truly are.

If you’re curious about volunteering opportunities across Midlothian, MCA’s website is a great place to start (and you’ll find our own opportunities listed there too). You can also take a look at our Volunteering page to see the range of roles that our fabulous team of Volunteers fill in support of the local community.
