Celebrating The Steading’s gardening volunteers
Our gardening volunteers have worked hard this year to care for The Steading’s gardens and grounds, create new planting areas and grow a plentiful harvest of fruit, vegetables and herbs.
We’d like to thank the whole team for their dedication and share what they’ve achieved throughout the year.
New gardeners and new planting
The team welcomed three new gardeners this year and created a large new shrub area, adding to the planting around The Steading.
They’ve also continued to look after the terrace, the Haven, the polytunnel and all the Steading grounds. These spaces need regular attention, and keeping them maintained is a significant part of the volunteers’ work.
A productive year in the garden
Cherry tomatoes were a particularly plentiful crop this year. The team also grew apples, green beans, lettuce, onions, rhubarb, basil and parsley, with plenty of time and care going into planting, tending and harvesting. All our produce is grown using organic methods too.
Over £400 raised through the plant sale
Alongside their gardening work, the volunteers hosted a plant sale that raised more than £400.
Thank you to everyone who bought plants and supported the sale, and to the team for the work that went into making it happen.
Thank you to our volunteers
The gardens and grounds are part of everyday life at The Steading, and our volunteers’ efforts help keep them welcoming and well cared for.
To every member of the gardening team: thank you for your hard work, your time and everything you’ve contributed this year.
