If you’ve been meaning to move a bit more, February is a great time to start. Even small, regular movement helps with energy, mobility, mood and sleep, especially when winter has left everyone feeling a bit sluggish.
At The Steading, we’ve got weekly classes that suit different ages and abilities. Some are gentle and supportive, some are more energetic, and some are simply a good reason to get out the house and do something active with other people.
Gentle movement and mobility
If you’re looking for a more accessible activity, Seated Yoga (Mondays from 9:30am) is a great option. It’s chair-based, so it’s ideal if you prefer not to get up and down from the floor, or if you’re working around stiffness, balance, or limited mobility. It focuses on stretching, posture, and controlled movement.

There’s also Yoga (Wednesdays from 6:15pm) which offers a more traditional class setting, with time to stretch, strengthen and unwind midweek.

Strength, posture and core
If your aim is to improve posture and core strength, Pilates with Vesta Wellbeing runs several times a week: Mondays at 12:00pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:20pm. Pilates is popular because it’s effective without being high-impact, and it’s a good complement to everyday life, whether that’s desk work, lifting kids, or just wanting to feel stronger and steadier.

Fitness with a bit more energy
For something more upbeat, there’s our Boxing Exercise Class (Mondays, 6:30pm). It’s fitness-based boxing training, so you’re working on cardio and conditioning with boxing-style movements. You don’t need experience, and it’s a good option if you enjoy sessions that keep you moving the whole time. Pre-booking is required.

If music is more your thing, Broadway Boogie with Kirsty (Tuesdays, 6:30pm) is a dance fitness class inspired by stage and screen. It’s fun, upbeat, and built around follow-along routines, so you can join in at your own pace and improve fitness without it feeling like a gym session.

Social, low-pressure ways to be active
Not all movement needs to be a “workout”. Table tennis is brilliant for gentle cardio, coordination and keeping active in a more fun way. We run Ladies Table Tennis on Tuesdays (1:00pm) and Fridays (3:00pm), and Men’s Table Tennis on Wednesdays (1:00pm). These are friendly drop-in sessions and a good way to get moving without pressure.

Come Dancing (last Wednesday of every month, 2:30-4:00pm) is a relaxed monthly social with music, a friendly atmosphere and the option to dance or simply sit and enjoy the entertainment. It’s a good one if you’re not keen on structured classes and just fancy getting out for a chat and a bit of atmosphere. Some months include live music from Ewan Galloway too.
Dance classes for children (and adults too!)
We also host weekly dance classes with L Dance Collective every Thursday, including nursery ballet, primary ballet, mini acro, and mini jazz. These are structured classes where children build confidence, coordination, and fitness while learning dance skills in a supportive environment. They also run adult classes on Thursday evenings, which are a great option if you want something more focused and technical.

Martin & Sime Dance Academy also run weekly Saturday classes, giving another option for children and young people to stay active through dance.

How to join
Each class is run by an individual provider, so bookings and questions go directly to them. If you’re not sure which session would suit you, it’s worth getting in touch with the instructor first. They’ll be able to advise on what to expect, what to bring and whether it’s suitable for your needs.
Keep an eye out on our Calendar page for all of our upcoming classes and activities.
