Our Volunteers

At Rosewell Development Trust, we believe that volunteering plays a vital role in strengthening our community. The Steading is central to our efforts, and volunteers are key to helping us deliver a variety of services and activities that benefit those living in Rosewell and the surrounding area. Whether you want to give back, develop new skills or connect with others, volunteering at The Steading offers a fulfilling opportunity to make a real impact.

Volunteers make a significant difference by helping to maintain our community hub, assist with local events and deliver important programmes that foster connection and well-being. Volunteers are at the heart of our operations, and their contributions ensure that The Steading remains a thriving and inclusive space for all.

Group Support Volunteer

“I volunteer for the Lunch Club. I have been volunteering for over a year now and have really enjoyed my time volunteering here – the people are really nice and understanding. I decided to volunteer there because I was looking for something to do with my time and it was also going to give me some work experience.

I would definitely recommend volunteering here – you will definitely love it and have fun helping people. If you are thinking about volunteering here or anywhere I would say just go for it, you never know what life’s going to bring you so just go for the opportunity when you’ve got it.”

Administrative Volunteer

“I have been a Welcome Desk Volunteer since March 2025. I decided to begin volunteering to become more involved with the community. I have really enjoyed getting to know more people from the village and the interesting conversations as a result.

The role can be varied, and you never quite know what your day may entail from reuniting lost dogs with their owners to getting involved with local community events. I would recommend volunteering here to anyone that wants to enjoy their day and be part of a welcoming team.”

Group Support Volunteer

“Motivation: perceiving a need for help; curiosity and learning; interaction; discovering new trends; writing inspiration; enjoyment; and, in this instance, still feeling useful and appreciated. I must have been one of RDT’s most aged Santa’s elf!

I would most definitely recommend volunteering at The Steading. It is a marvellous facility with a variety of activities for all levels of learning and abilities. The building is entirely disabled (and dogs in the café) friendly. The atmosphere is calm, friendly and optimistic – all generated by the cheerful and dedicated staff.”

Group Support Volunteer

“I have volunteered at Lunch Club at The Steading for over 2 years. I am retired and have time to help. It’s really good fun and I have met lots of lovely people. I love hearing the stories of Rosewell in the past. I get more out of volunteering than I give.

I would encourage anyone to get involved with volunteering at The Steading. It is a really vibrant lively community hub. The people of Rosewell are amazing and really community minded and caring.”

Administrative Volunteer

“I am 16 and I volunteer at the welcome desk. I have been volunteering there for about eleven months. I started volunteering as part of my Duke of Edinburgh but I kept doing it after because I enjoy it. There’s not really one specific thing I enjoy more than the rest. I just like being there, the atmosphere is very nice and I always feel better after volunteering.

Personally, the biggest benefit I feel I have experienced through volunteering is the amount my confidence has grown. A memorable experience from volunteering for me was at Christmas when it was very busy and quite different to normal and I felt I managed quite well – that was proof for me that I had got more confident and I could remain calm even in more stressful situations and that I was and am capable. I would definitely recommend volunteering to other people. It’s fun and good experience.”

Volunteering helps you to meet new people and make new friendships you can also gain new skills, community connection within your area where you live. I would recommend volunteering to everyone – gives you great worth and satisfaction.
