All’s Well in Rosewell? Here’s What You Told Us

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our All’s Well in Rosewell? community survey.

We asked local people to share their views on The Steading, how they use it, what they value, and what they feel Rosewell may need more of in future.

The survey gives us a helpful snapshot of the views shared by those who responded. Most of all, it showed that The Steading is seen as a welcoming and important part of community life.

A Place People Value

One of the strongest findings was that 95% of respondents had visited The Steading in the past year.

The café stood out as a big part of that, with 92% of respondents saying they had used it. People told us they value the good food at the cafe, The Steading’s friendly staff, calm atmosphere, clean facilities, and chance to meet others.

A few comments really summed this up:

“The staff and community feel! It brings us all together.”

“We love having access to these things in the village and not having to drive to access them.”

“Lovely environment and feeling of community, well done.”

For many people, The Steading is more than a building. It is somewhere to meet friends, join activities, access support, bring children along, and feel part of village life.

Making Rosewell a Better Place to Live

The feedback was very encouraging.

81% of respondents said activities at The Steading help make Rosewell a better place to live. When including those who answered “yes” or “somewhat”, that rose to 90%.

Respondents also told us that Rosewell has a strong sense of community:

  • 86% rated their quality of life as good or very good
  • 76% said they feel connected or somewhat connected to the village community
  • 53% said they would or might consider volunteering

This last figure is particularly encouraging and gives us something to build on as we plan future activities and events. Volunteers play a huge part in community life, and it is great to know that many people may be open to getting involved in some way. What You’d Like to See More Of

The survey also helped us understand what people would like to see more of in Rosewell.

The top priorities were:

  • Youth activities  71%
  • Community events  67%
  • Support for older residents  65%
  • Health and wellbeing activities  64%
  • Family activities  60%

People also highlighted interest in more evening and weekend activities, which could make it easier for those with work, school, caring responsibilities, or busy weekday routines to take part.

What Can Make Taking Part Harder

We also asked what can get in the way of joining in.

The most common barrier was time, followed by confidence or social barriers, childcare, awareness, cost, and transport.

As we plan future activities, we’ll keep thinking about timings, affordability, family-friendly options, clear information, and ways to make first visits feel as welcoming as possible.

Rosewell is Growing

A clear theme from the survey was that Rosewell is changing.

86% of respondents said village growth has changed local needs.

People linked this to increased demand for services, social spaces, family activities, youth provision, support for older residents, and opportunities to connect locally.

That makes community spaces like The Steading even more important.

What Happens Next?

The survey results will help Rosewell Development Trust plan future services, activities, and priorities at The Steading.

We’ll use your feedback to explore:

  • More activities for young people and families
  • More community events
  • More evening and weekend options
  • Continued support for older residents
  • Health and wellbeing sessions
  • Creative workshops and learning opportunities
  • Ways to make activities easier to access and attend

Thank you again to everyone who shared their views. Your feedback helps us understand what is working well, where there may be gaps, and what Rosewell may need next.

Together, we can keep building a village where people feel welcome, supported, and connected.
