The Village Larder launches this week at The Village Cafe
The Village Cafe is launching The Village Larder this week, bringing a new range of fresh local produce and quality ingredients to The Steading.
Led by Enoch, operator of The Village Cafe, the new range will focus on well-sourced food and drink from local and carefully selected suppliers. The selection will include flour from East Lothian, rapeseed oil from Carrington, tea from Loanhead, fish from Musselburgh, and the same coffee already being served in the cafe.
What you’ll find in The Village Larder
The Village Larder will bring together a mix of everyday essentials and speciality items, with an emphasis on quality and local links. The focus is on good ingredients people can use at home, while also giving more space to producers and suppliers connected to the local area.

Flour from Mungoswells
One of the first products in The Village Larder will be 1.5kg bags of flour from Mungoswells in Drem, East Lothian.
The products include:
- Strong Bread Flour
- Plain Flour
Mungoswells flour is sourced from its own farm and neighbouring farms, with full traceability by batch.
Rapeseed oil from Supernature
The Village Larder will also stock rapeseed oil from Supernature, based at Carrington Barns Farm in Carrington.
The range will include:
- 100ml infused rapeseed oils in flavours such as tarragon, oregano, chilli, garlic, lemon and garden mint
- 250ml rapeseed oil
- 500ml rapeseed oil
Supernature’s cold pressed rapeseed oils are a multi award-winning healthy alternative to extra virgin olive oil.
Shibui Tea
Also joining the range is Shibui Tea, a small family-run tea business based in Loanhead. Shibui focuses on high-quality speciality tea, ethical sourcing, and packaging that can be composted or recycled where possible. It is also part of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of sales to environmental charities.
The range at The Village Cafe will include:
- Scottish Breakfast Tea
- Earl Grey
- Decaf Tea
Shibui says its Scottish Breakfast tea was developed to be full of flavour and able to handle milk, making it a good fit for the kind of tea already being served in the cafe.
Azzurro coffee
The Village Larder will also include Azzurro coffee, the same coffee served at The Village Cafe.
Founded by the Formisano family in Turin, Azzurro has been supplied to the UK for more than 25 years, with the beans continuing to be hand-roasted in Italy. The blend used in the cafe is Monte Carlo, a medium-strength coffee with an equal balance of Arabica and Robusta beans, designed to give a smooth finish and rich crema.
Fish from JK Thomson
The Village Larder includes a range of chilled fish products from JK Thomson in Musselburgh, a long-established family seafood business with more than 60 years of experience.
The selection at The Village Cafe includes fridge-ready products such as:
- Smoked haddock
- Seabass
- Salmon
- Haddock angel fillets
- Hot smoked salmon
- Cod
A new addition to The Village Cafe
The launch of The Village Larder adds something new to The Village Cafe, while also making more local produce and quality ingredients available to the local community. The launch will support good suppliers and allow Rosewell residents and visitors to pick up quality ingredients closer to home.
